Thanking Everyone For Their Continuing Support
We would like to thank everyone for their continuing support in helping us bring HMS Invincible back home to Barrow-in-Furness. I have recently written to John Hutton (Defence Secretary) to outline once again why we think HMS Invincible should retire in her home town. We know that she would be an asset to the town, and I mentioned some of the things that we could do on board the ship if she came home.
1. A Memorial to those who lost their lives in the Falklands Conflict.
2. Training ship for the young cadets.
3. A Tourist Attraction to add to our new Marina.
4. History placed on board and slide shows.
5. Talks given by members of the Royal Navy.
6. Open to the general public to view her history.
7. School outings so that children get to see her first hand.
8. Added attraction for people visiting the Lake District.
9. Summer concerts with Vickers Town Band and other bands playing in the hangar.
10. A huge icon for the Festival of the Sea
Barrow-in-Furness is a seaside town and a town hosting alot of history with it's shipbuilding. We would love to see you at the Festival of the Sea and also visit our local market and attractions such as the Dock Museum and South Lakes Animal Park. We are building a new Marina which is a huge project, but will inject a brand new look to our docks, so we would like to see you here. For people visiting the Lake District: kendal, Ulverston, Dalton and Barrow-in-Furness welcome you. We also have our shopping centre! Portland Walk and Dalton Road, there is Barrow Park for you to walk around and relax. We have lovely walks by the sea at Channelside and plenty of restaurants where you can have a great meal. In the summer months, we have a ferry to take you across to Piel Island as shown on Martin Clunes "Islands of Britain" and much more.
Once again, we thank you for your support and we hope in the near future we can bring HMS Invincible back home to stay. I know that you will enjoy a trip around this vessel, on the flight-deck, the bridge, and the hangars and much more. This ship served her Country for twenty-five years and was the Flagship for the Royal Navy. I can't thank the ex-crew members enough for their emails and support, they have been brilliant, and they enjoyed their time serving on HMS Invincible. We would like to thank the Royal Navy for looking after Invincible. I boarded HMS Invincible in 2005 before she was taken out of service and she was immaculate. The ship had been kept in tip top condition, so a huge thank you to all those who have been involved in the refitting of HMS Invincible over the years. The ship still stands in Portsmouth Naval Dockyard and I was told that her fate will be decided in 2010. We don't want HMS Invincible to be sold, I also know that there are alot of people that would come back and visit the ship in her home town, and of course Barrow can stand proud knowing that we built the ship. I can remember when HMS Invincible was launched. I was at the launch, and so many years have passed since then, thirty-two years just gone on the 3rd May. If anyone can add to our Campaign then please get in touch we would love to hear from you.
Thanks for visiting this website.
See you soon!

Torpedoing idea of HMS Shopping Mall
Torpedoing idea of HMS Shopping Mall
I WOULD like to reply to your letter (Evening Mail, May 20) regarding HMS Invincible becoming a so-called shopping mall.
If HMS Invincible was to come back to Barrow, she would be kept as a warship and stand as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the Falklands War, and to honour those who built and served her.
This ship will not be used as a shopping mall – we have Portland Walk for that.

Campaign Update May 2008
We are currently still trying to bring HMS Invincible home to Barrow-in-Furness. We have been in touch with the MOD and are now awaiting a reply. We have also been in touch with John Hutton MP, as the Invincible is still docked in Portsmouth, rusting away. It's such a shame to think that this great ship, who once served her Country is based down Portsmouth. We would like to bring this ship home to her resting place, where she will be preserved and serve as a memorial to all those who built her, served her and lost their lives in the Falklands War. We feel, that seen as though she was the Flagship for the Royal Navy, her history should live on. We would like to thank the many people from all over the globe who continue to show their support for this Campaign, and we promise to continue to do our very best to bring this ship home where she belongs. Many ex-crew members have shown their support, and we understand that they would like to see her return home. To all those who served on HMS Invincible, thanks for your support, and hopefully one day, we can bring her back to Barrow-in-Furness, and people from all over can come and visit her, and remember the 25 years she served her Country.
