Bring HMS Invincible Home Campaign Website

Welcome to the 'Bring HMS Invincible Home' campaign website

DEDICATED TO HMS INVINCIBLE AND THE EXCELLENT CRAFTSMANSHIP OF THE PEOPLE OF BARROW-IN-FURNESS.

We have decided to dedicate this website to our very own aircraft carrier HMS Invincible. At this present time, Invincible is placed into a low state of readiness at Portsmouth Naval Base. During her 25 years with the Royal Navy, the ship has visited many different Countries, and many ports in the UK. Not once, has our ship returned to Barrow-in-Furness for a visit. We are currently in collaboration with the MOD in a bid to bring Invincible home for a visit, so that people can take a look around this fine vessel and see the great craftsmanship of the people of Barrow-in-Furness. After countless letters from the MOD, the fight must go on to bring our ship home. In her last week of service at the end of July 2005, HMS Invincible visited Tyne Side, and people were given an open day to take a look around her. I travelled to North Shields on the 26th July 2005 and was taken on board the Carrier. It was a real shame that after 25 years of service with the Royal Navy the people of Barrow-in-Furness never got to celebrate the end of her career. It is therefore important, that somehow we can have a visit from our Ship once again, and people from all over should come and visit the Invincible in her home town.

It would also be a memorable day for Barrow-in-Furness to see their ship sail in again. To remember the people who dedicated their craftsmanship in the building of this ship and also that the ship lived up to her name during her active service. HMS Invincible became “Flagship” for the Royal Navy and served with honours in the Falklands Conflict.

We hope that we can eventually bring Invincible home. It is unfair that such a fine ship should be a tourist attraction in Portsmouth but not in Barrow-in-Furness. Now placed into a “low state of readiness” and unlikely to be used for active service again, the ship will be kept with the Royal Navy (MOD) until 2010 where her fate will be decided. During this time, there is no reason why Invincible cannot come home and be docked here in Barrow-in-Furness. This ship has certainly had a lot of visitors and has always been a main attraction when visiting ports. It is only fair, that people should remember that HMS Invincible was built at Barrow-in-Furness and that everywhere she has sailed in the world, she has take a very big piece of us with her. We are very proud to have built such a great ship and we would be delighted to have her docked here once again.

Please enjoy taking a look at this site, and we would be grateful if you could support our Campaign to “Bring Invincible Home Again”

Remembering our dedication to a “Shipbuilding Town
