Bring HMS Invincible Home Campaign Website

About Me

Hello EVERYONE and thanks for visiting our website.

I am 45 years old and have lived in Barrow-in-Furness all my life. I am a full time carer and I also do project work for Earth Science Departments. I am passionate about the work that I do. I have studied Natural Disasters since I was 10 years old and got my degree. The most important thing is to try and save lives, and people who work in Earth Sciences are always studying the changes in our planet. Natural Disasters are the worlds biggest killer and they strike when we least expect them too. Our aim is to protect communities and to try and work together.

As a person who believes in doing the right thing, I believe that the men and women of our armed forces who are fighting terrorists deserve all the recognition that they can get. It's not a good job that they do, being on the frontline. They are the best: simply because they are fighting for their Country and they are looking after us. It's tough for them out there and it's tough on their families who miss them terribly and some of these youngsters never make it back home. We must never forget these men and women who bravely fought and continue to fight for our freedom, we must remember them with pride and thank their families for having such wonderful human beings. It is with this thought, that I would like for HMS Invincible to return to Barrow-in-Furness to which I will tell you, a little bit about my home town.

Barrow-in-Furness is a town by the sea, and not a bad place to live I might add, there are worse places to be right now. I think if I post this link, it will explain alot about the town that I live in    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrow-in-Furness   so please take a look for yourselves. As you can see there are plans to build a new Marina which is due to be finished by 2020 to which is not what Barrow-in-Furness is really all about. This town is well know for all it's ships and submarines that it has built over the years. This shipbuilding industry was thriving back in those days:-

As you can see, there are quite alot. To see the employees come out of Vickers was something else, you didn't even want to be on the High Level bridge when the workforce came out, in fact, you could not see the bridge when they came out, the shipyard buzzer would go and we would wait until the road was clear again. I loved those days, we were a happy town then and look what we built.

We are a Naval town with a Naval history and we should let that legacy live on. I respect the fact that the people of my town built these fine vessels and submarines and if I am guilty for wanting to acknowledge that, then I stand guilty. If I am guilty for wanting to bring a ship home that we built, to dedicate her to our heritage and to stand as a memorial and honour those who lost their lives in the Falklands Conflict and to those who have been lost in other Conflicts and to those men and women who serve their Country today then I stand guilty. To have a Marina that is going to take another decade to complete means nothing compared to the years that we spent building ships.

I would like to think that at least the people who built these ships and submarines can be remembered for may more years to come. They deserve the credibilty of our town, they are the ones who's grandchildren should be able to feel a part of what they achieved. In those days, our town was busy and we had a busy market and a very busy Dalton Road, not like it is now. I want the people of Barrow to feel that they have the right to decide what's best for the future of their town. They live here, they can see how it is today compared to the old days and it's up to them to move the town in the right direction. I have to say that I do care about these matters and I care about what they think. It's time for them to speak up and our Council should listen to them. I want our town to feel those moments again, even if we can't bring HMS Invincible home.

I am an honest person who will speak her mind but I am also a person who likes to do the right thing. My most hated word is "protocol" because for once, I would like to push protocol aside and have our Government remember that lives lost at war are human lives and even though these people are gone they are never going to be forgotten because they deserve the credibility for giving their own lives to save lives. I think that having Invincible stand with names and history on board is a way of letting people know what these people went through and are having to go through today. Barrow built warships to do a job and they built them well. I remember when HMS Sheffield was sunk in the Falklands and the whole town felt a sudden silence, yes she was one of ours it was a horrible moment. Our Government need to understand that people cannot be pushed aside and our armed forces need all the help that they can get. I am sorry to hear of so many deaths because of the ongoing war and my prayers and thoughts are with the families of those victims right now. I hope that you can find some comfort in knowing that we stand united and salute your loved ones and to know that we are by your side.

Look after one another and please salute all of our armed forces. The Army, The Navy, The Airforce (we need our Ministry of Defence) better still, we would prefer people not to have to go to war, but the world is far from peaceful.

Show a bit of love today.
